Sea Day 1

It is early evening on the Golden Princess, somewhere near to Adelaide and as I write a string trio is playing an arrangement of the Bach Double Violin Concerto, not the finest string playing I have ever hear, but how lovely to hear one of my all time favourite pieces of music, when normally I avoid the different music venues due to the hideous quality and choices of repertoire......sorry if you think I am being unusually critical, but it is true ! However this is a lovely  moment in the day. I adore, and have always adored Bach and can listen to his instrumental music happily, with no thought of vocal flaws etc. The cellist has, just this minute, temporarily lost her way in the third movement, but I imagine the trio version is quite a feat of incorporation of the ripieno parts !

It has been a generally restful day watching the sea go by and finding my way around the large vessel. I have a poor sense of direction so I end up walking miles further than I need - this however is probably very good for me ! My Apple Watch told me that I had achieved my exercise goal (not that I have set any goals to the best of my knowledge ) by 11.30am this morning ! Just goes to show how little I do on a normal day when the fiery circle of achievement only appears by about 7pm ! For young Tom’s information I have walked 7000 steps today so far, and that by his bedtime! Given he seemed to do about 22,000 per day according to his watch, I have some way to go to be able to compete !

Tomorrow we get to Adelaide and I need to find out if I can get to the city from the dock under my own steam without paying a small mortgage for a cab ! I have no idea as yet, but the excursion desk should have all that information, so a stroll over to that desk will follow my soft drink ! I also received an email today asking me to make a claim for my severely delayed flight and missed connection. The internet is too slow for me to do anything onboard, but I need to think about it, given I had such wonderful treatment and a restful and elegant ( not to say unexpected) stopover in Bangkok ! Somehow it seems a bit churlish to expect more money ? The businessman going to Melbourne I imagine would claim as he had a meeting which he probably missed, but my time was my own........

The ship has been hugging the shore most of the day so distant land has been in sight. The weather is very pleasant, some sun and cloud but the balcony has been a good place to sit and read and watch the last two episodes of Season 3 of Zoo, which I downloaded at Emily’s. As far as I am aware the third season has not yet appeared on Netflix UK so that has been great !

Balcony sunset ( only an iPhone camera I’m afraid !)

The Princess cruise line have a very lovely area in the Atrium, or Piazza called the International Cafe. If you don’t want a large meal or to dine formally it offers delicious light meals. This evening I had roast chicken Waldorf and tiger prawns with some leaves. To follow a sugar free fresh fruit tart and a good coffee. I love this, and it helps one to regulate the food intake ! It is actually open 24 hours so I am told, but have never partaken of its delights much after 9pm ish !

International cafe plus chef.

A tough day at the office, but someone has to do it........

The journey home was relatively uneventful and very pleasant. Spending all the extra for business class was truly worth every penny, and it ...
