When I walked through the reception area on my way to pack the car the whole area was awash with about 100 air crew ! We had whole sets, or maybe the collective noun is ‘a flutter of crew’, standing in knots of airline uniforms with cases galore. There were crews and pilots from Uzbekistan Airways, China Eastern Airways, China Airways, Ukraine Airways and a few more I could not name without asking, all waiting to be taken back to Heathrow as their flights were able to leave the ground ! I was heartened by this news as it clearly meant that Heathrow was operating once more. There was a sense of urgency about the whole foyer and the busses arrived for them all and left within about 5 minutes ! So fingers crossed for Thai..........
My supper was from a Portuguese takeaway restaurant just a step over the road from the hotel, and I had a warm tuna and cheese baguette and some kind of Portuguese cake. The server spoke very little English and I nearly ended up with a scrambled egg and tuna sandwich but by dint of some hand signs and a lot of pointing I managed to stop the strange hot/cold delicacy !
That means I have, in the three days I have been here eaten Polish, Indian and Portuguese. What a cosmopolitan few days !!
A warm bun, cold tuna and quite hard cheese and cake which was nice but indescribable as a confection !
